I have to admit, I'm a bit of a junkie for a good book about positive thinking. I'm fascinated with how the subconscious mind plays such a huge role in creating our paths in life.
I'm also fascinated with the Law of Attraction and how when used correctly, it can absolutely change your life.
It all started for me around 2006 on a Friday afternoon. That was the first time I had ever heard of the Law of Attraction. Oprah was doing a show with book author Rhonda Byrne about her new movie called The Secret.
I listened to Rhonda and other Law of Attraction advocates from the movie, talk about how positive thinking and visualization had completely changed their lives, allowing them to achieve more than they had ever dreamed possible.
Ok, you've got my attention!
They spoke about how simply changing your thoughts from negative to positive can totally change the direction of your life.
But that's not so simple you say, and I agree! Getting the negative thoughts out of our heads can be one of the hardest things we try and do.
It's a daily battle for most of us.
Negative thoughts can not only affect your daily life, health, and relationships, but they can alter your course in life.
If you tend to focus on all the bad thoughts you think about daily, then you may not believe that each one of us is capable of living an amazing life.
So how do you get the negative thoughts out and begin to think more positively? It's simple, grab a book and start reading.
I've found that the more good information I fill my mind with, the easier it is to shift my mind into a place of positivity.
What is the Law of Attraction
The Law of Attraction is the belief that the thoughts you focus on, either positive or negative, you will continually attract more of the same into your life.
If you choose to constantly think negative thoughts, worry over things you can't control, stay angry with people because they didn't do something you thought they should, worry about your career or focus on the lack of money, then you will continue to attract more of those things into your life.
On the other hand, if you can learn how to stop the negative thoughts and shift them to positive, you will begin to see amazing things happen in your life.
Have you heard that saying "When it Rains, It Pours"?
When it seems like everything that could go wrong, is going wrong, stop for just a minute and think about your thoughts. Are you thinking about happy, positive things and being grateful, or are you angry and focusing on negative things?
As I learn more about these concepts, I can see that when things start going wrong, I can almost always trace them back to when my thoughts were not in the best place.
Learning about and using the Law of Attraction, and understanding how the mind works have made an amazing difference in my life.
The books listed in this post have helped me to shift my mindset to a more positive place, which has given me the courage I've needed to follow my dreams and start my own business.
How the subconscious mind can work against you
Did you know that we have around 65,000 thoughts that run through our conscious minds ever day? Doesn't that make you tired just thinking about it?
And most of those thoughts are typically negative. Why is that?
It's easier for the human mind to focus on negative thoughts, things that upset us, bother us, and make us angry. We overthink and worry about things so much that we create them in our lives.
The more you focus on your negative thoughts, the more you feed those thoughts into your subconscious mind, which will likely prevent you from living your best life.
The same holds true for positive thinking. The more you can switch your focus to more positive ways of thinking, the more you can create a happier life.
How can you change your thoughts and change your life?
That's simple, start reading!
I've found that the more information I can learn from reading books and articles about positive thinking, the easier it becomes to rewire my brain to kick out negative thoughts.
This doesn’t mean that I have completely wiped out all negativity, not even close. I'm also dealing with the 65,000 somewhat positive, quite a bit negative, and mostly crazy thoughts that fly through my mind every day.
I'm a work in progress, but I look forward to learning ways to create a more positive life, and every book helps!

You are a Badass
This book tops the list for my most favorite, must-read, change your way of thinking now books. Jen Sincero has an amazingly straightforward way of telling you like it is when it comes to allowing your bad thoughts to shape your life.
I've read about all the concepts she talks about in the book before, but she has a no-nonsense way of putting things, and it really makes you take a look at your life and think about if you are truly where you want to be. And if you are not, then it's your own fault!
Not really, well sort of.
If you want a better life, if you want to be successful, or start your own business, or travel around the world, or follow your dreams, then do it. Start believing you can and you will.
It really is up to you.
Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert
Many of us allow fear to dictate the direction of our lives. We worry about leaving the job we hate, or not creating the job we want because we think we will fail.
This book goes deep into letting go of all the fear and worries that keep us from doing what we love and how to live our best creative lives.
Hero: The Secret by Rhonda Byrne
From zero to hero - your secret map to a rich life
It was this book that sparked the idea of starting my own creative business. I was driving home from work, listening to this audio book, when an idea came along and smacked me in the head.
I say it that way because that's kinda how it felt. I knew that the idea would eventually turn into something, wrote it down in my Erin Condren Planner, and a year later, here I am, working to bring that idea to life.
I have three Rhonda Byrne books on my list, but I would recommend this book to anyone looking to start their own business or follow a different career path in life.
The book fills you with thoughts of I can do anything, and honestly, you really can!
The Power of I Am and the Law of Attraction by R. J. Banks
We are what we attract, what we think, and what we tell ourselves.
What do you tell yourself every day? Do you fill your mind with thoughts of "I can do anything" or do you tell yourself that "I am not good enough"?
Whichever of those hold true for you, so you shall be. You have the power to be anything you choose to be as long as you believe that you can do it.
Not always an easy thing to do, I know. We are hard wired to protect ourselves from that which we fear to be dangerous or cause us pain. And stepping out of your comfort zone to follow a new path can definitely cause a great deal of fear.
This book will help you to stop focusing on all the things you think you can't do and start focusing on all the things you can.
The Power by Rhonda Byrne
This book focuses on the power we have within us to change relationships, money, health, happiness, career, and our entire lives.
It is uplifting and compelling. You get the feeling that you can do just about anything in life, be anything. It's an amazing reminder of how the Law of Attraction works in our lives and how we can harness that power to change all aspects of the life we live.
The Power of Your Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy
Earlier I spoke about how your conscious thoughts directly affect your subconscious mind, and how that can steer your life in a positive or negative direction. This book provides such an interesting way of learning more about how this works.
Once you have a better understanding of how powerful the subconscious mind is in creating your life, you can work on getting your thoughts in the right place.
The Secret by Rhonda Byrne
I saved this book for last, but it's definitely not least. This is the book that started it all for me. Well, Oprah started it all, so, thanks, Oprah!
This book was life changing for me. To learn that I have so much control over my thoughts and my path in life was truly amazing.
Even if you don't fully buy in to all the Law of Attraction speak, this book gives you valuable tools you can use to create the best possible life you can live.
And who doesn't want that?

I'm not sure I would be where I am today if it weren't for the amazing books on this list. They provided me with the confidence to step out of my comfort zone and work towards creating the most amazing life possible.
